As you know, there is a massive Sex trade in Asia. Many of it's countries use children, through kidnapping. Some of these children may be as young as 5.
According to one group fighting sexual exploitation of children, there are at least 5,000 foreign men coming here every year, looking to have sex with children.
The Government profits from the sex tourism, as well as human slavery. In 1990 an undercover survey found that Children could be rented for 80$ a night. Innocent children being brought into a life filled with crime- rape, drug abuse, physical abuse, not to mention years of mental trauma. The sad fact is Thai prostitution has grown so rapidly in recent decades that it has become a "commercial sector," one that contributes significant employment and national income. Yet the government's budget, statistics, and development plans do not recognize the trade, putting this lucrative business in an economic and legal twilight zone. In addition, Thai commerce laws sanction prostitution as a "personal service," even though it is illegal under the penal code. The law thus recognizes the investment privileges of the sex trade while technically making its workers criminals.
At least a third of all Thai sex workers are under the age of 18, the international legal standard for child labour. Teenagers are the most in demand with clients, and the majority of adult prostitutes entered the trade as children themselves. According to Unicef, up to 35% of all sex workers in the Mekong area (which includes Thailand and Cambodia) are under 17 - a total that runs into the hundreds of thousands. Children of both sexes are passed on by their poverty-stricken parents onto pimps, and enter the 'sex tourist' trade, where Westerners and local men pay as little as $3 for 'prostitutes' as young as six.
The international sex market, however, is a more prestigious and intoxicating lure for families who expect to earn money through their daughters and for young girls desperately seeking a way out of poverty. Male tourists and business travelers from around the globe come to Thailand to indulge themselves at bargain prices in a freewheeling atmosphere, unconfined by taboos against sex with minors or the threat of arrest. The money they spend on sex, hotels, meals, gifts, transportation, and tourist extras is a major source of Thailand's foreign currency exchange.
So imagine if you will, if your a parent, unknowingly trading off your child as if they were an object, a piece of clothing to be discarded. Think of that every time you buy a product from Thailand that your buying a child and then throwing them away.
